DEVON HOUSE PATTIES - Jamaica

An unplanned stop at Devon House.

Devon House In my mind the place for excellent ice cream, rivalled by none.

Only to be enthusiastically told that first they also serve patties and secondly patties  with an array of Caribbean flavours; goat, oxtail, swamp, lobster and callaloo to name a few.

Can you imagine this Pattie purest response to this new found information. Subdued horror. In the land of real patties they'd succumbed to 21st century watering down of tradition foods.

There I was determined to maintain the true Pattie so I ordered beef. Only to be told beef was sold out 😫

I took the plunge and ordered goat. Already forming my list of reasons why goat should never be the filling in a Pattie.

Before I write any further I want to take this opportunity to apologise for the above written words.
I curtsy to the wisdom of Devon House culinary food court.

The skin (pastry) of the Pattie is the perfect colour, flakiness and flavour.
The goat filling smelled, tasted,  wholesome and wonderful.
The final satisfying feature of the Devon House Pattie: is that it, isn't pattie shaped.  They may have called it Pattie, but they are pastry parcels filled with a selection of delightful fillings.

I was campaigning for those so called patties that weren't beef or vegetable to be renamed.
This parcel made of delightful pastry with an abundant choice of fillings deserves the name.
It's not trying to look like a Pattie, it's just using the name, so that we know it's got quality of it's  big brother,  but not trying to be like it.

Well Devon House Pattie
