INTRODUCTION TO PATTIE BLOG

This blog has been created to look at the Caribbean Pattie. We intend to visit shops that offer this Caribbean snack and grade the quality of the pattie as objectively as possible by scoring them on:
1. Pastry; quality, i.e. texture - softness, flakiness and  flavour.
2. Shape; Traditional pattie shape.
3. Meat; spicy, juicy, Caribbean flavour.
TOP SCORE 15

BROWN EAGLE

BROWN EAGLE - Woodgreen High Street
Nr bus station

Only 2 patties in the heater, nothing wrong with that. At least I knew they don't having them in there all day drying out.

Pastry - flaky,  melt in mouth 5
Shape - 4
Flavour - spicy & tastie without being to hot 5

SAVANNAH CARIBBEAN

SAVANNAH CARIBBEAN
14 Clapham High Street
SW4 7UT.

Customers were buying piles of food, I got the impression they were getting the weeks supply of main meals and I was not surprised. The beautifully presented food display would temp you into buying everything. The lady a head of me kept adding to her order. I think a very good sign that Savannah Caribbeans' food must be as nice as it looks.

The pattie heater was packed. They had beef patties - which was a result for me. This added to my admiration of this little gem of a shop near Clapham North tube station.

Pastry: Light and flaky - 4

Shape:  Not quite a half circle a bit pointed but sealed and good colouring. - 4

Filling: It actually looked like meat inside, meat coloured and textured.

Flavour: Nice flavour. I was tempted to dip it in hot pepper sauce but the overall flavour was pleasant - 3
